NOSTOMANIA

24 February - 28 March 2015
“Nostomania”, Erol Eskici’s first solo show in SANATORIUM, brings together artist’s works from last two years. In the light of the word ‘nostomania’ which refers to an irresistible compulsion to return home, the artist confronts the world of childhood with that of adulthood reigned by the dispositifs of ideology. The “Construction of Generation” series and other works, which implicitly evoke a political substratum, invite the viewer to a deeper reading of artistic and social fact.

Architecture is an important element for unveiling existing power structures for the artist who generally uses acrylic as technique. Both a tool of the state and a refuge for children, architecture takes different forms and functions at different times. The disproportion in architectural elements arouses an uncanny feeling in the viewer whilst emphasizing the necessary reconstruction of childhood in art.
