Entangled Cern Plans

23 March - 25 May 2013

In his first individual exhibition; ”Entangled Cern Plans”, Emin Mete Erdoğan pursues a mastery that is fed by the mathematical aesthetics of science and technology.

Generally, quantum physics and entanglement theory provides the basis for the artist’s works. According to entanglement theory, two electrons formed at the same time are entangled to each other. That is to say, if one of these particles is to be sent to Northern pole and the other to Southern pole, or even to any place in solar system, when we have an effect on one, the other will react.
The theory regarding the electrons being the same and a single one while appearing to be two different particles, gives the artist a comprehensive vision. The intense details of Emin Mete Erdoğan’s canvases that depict the gigantic machines that are used in Cern European Organization for Nuclear Research in Switzerland during “Large Hadron Collider” experiments, seems to expand as if they want to emphasize this comprehensiveness. The idea about the entanglement of every electron in the same plane during the Big Bang, reinforce the comprehensive meaning in Erdoğan’s works and  each detail in his canvases represents the fact that everything is still in touch with each other.

Another element that makes these details striking is the ambiguous places in Emin Mete Erdoğan’s works. Indeed, the idea of everything having a pair in time and space mathematics is supported with the feeling of emptiness that the canvases evoke in the viewers. The background that is ever in motion and can change any moment reminds the half utopian half dystopian atmosphere conflict in sci – fi movies. The precision of the numerical plane confront us as an uneasy reality in Emin Mete Erdoğan’s canvases.

“Entangled Cern Plans”; constructs a new language in terms of form and content while questioning concepts such as wholeness, emptiness and space from a different basis. By combining the search for a different content in contemporary art with a detailed style; the artist Emin Mete Erdoğan put his signature to an exciting first exhibition.

Emin Mete Erdoğan, born in 1982 in İstanbul, graduated from Marmara University Painting Department in 2010. Erdoğan who participated in various group exhibitions, lives and continues his works in Istanbul.
