Whisper of Things

10 October - 22 November 2025

SANATORIUM presents "The Whisper of Things" from October 10 - November 22, 2025 curated by Uras Kızıl. "The Whisper of Things" brings together research-based processual works concerning landscape by Selim Birsel, Sinem Dişli, Sibel Horada, Emre Hüner, Ege Kanar, Çağla Köseoğulları, Ali Miharbi and Yağız Özgen, specially produced or reconceptualized for the exhibition. The exhibition takes place at SANATORIUM Tophane, Mumhane cad. No: 67.

Centering on the concept of landscape [landschap], the exhibition approaches landscape beyond its merely picturesque function. By opening the conceptual levels of landscape for discussion, it seeks possibilities for expanding the concept. The way landscape is treated as a concept also gives new meanings inherent to the contemporary image. With Romanticism, landscape formed a power to reveal social, political and economic relations, today it turns its gaze toward the non-human other, also under the influence of the posthuman turn. Listening to the story of the non-human other determines the new content of the image within the exhibition.

The exhibition takes the position of storyteller. It aims to bring the existence of non-human things to appearance at the level of a reformulated landscape/image, revealing an ontological problem concerning existence. To achieve this, it first changes the center of the story, navigating the tension between real and fiction, empirical and speculative, absolute and relative and opens a space for new narratives. It allows the image to produce processual and affirmative knowledge. The exhibition examines the position and situation of the non-human other at the scale of landscape in a world that does not consist solely of human activities.

"The Whisper of Things" creates intuitive and affective resonances through its construction of narratives that include non-humans. With the participation of sound, color layers, chemical reactions and elements such as polyurethane foam, plastic epoxy, silicone, glass, rubber, etc., it realizes embodied landscape patterns that complete the fragments of stories.

The exhibition reformulates the gallery space just as it does with the image. It incorporates the back space used as an office area and the basement level accessed by a spiral staircase that functions as storage into the exhibition.
